Why Surface Fix exists
I'm Ben. I started Surface Fix in 2025.
The quote that started this
$32,000
Three builders, to renovate a kitchen over one 2cm chip.
$480
One repair tech, 90 minutes. The fix is invisible.
Nothing else was wrong with the kitchen. My friend nearly paid 66 times the price to fix one small chip the wrong way.
Repairs, not renovations
When a 2cm chip can stay a 2cm chip, that is what we tell you.
Signed by your technician
A fixed price from the person who arrives. It does not change at the door.
We say no when we should
No resurface when a chip-fix will do. No replacement when 90 minutes makes it new.

The $32,000 quote
A friend of mine got quoted $32,000 to renovate her kitchen because of a 2cm chip on her Caesarstone benchtop. The chip was on the edge of the island, where her toddler had hit it with a metal toy. It was the only damage. The kitchen worked. The benchtop worked. Everything else was fine. Three quotes from three different builders all came back with the same answer: rip out the bench, retile the splashback, redo the cabinetry to suit. Thirty-two thousand dollars.
What actually happened
I knew a stone repair guy through trade work. I sent him a photo on Sunday night. He came on Tuesday morning, fixed the chip in 90 minutes, and charged $480. The repair is invisible. You cannot find it unless you know where to look. My friend kept her kitchen. She put the saved money toward an actual problem (a leaking shower in the second bathroom).
The pattern
I started paying attention. Bathroom rips for chipped baths. The same pattern shows up across tile-floor and benchtop work too: rips for damage that could be fixed in a morning. The renovation industry quotes the easy answer (replace it). Specialist surface repair tradies are out there, but they are buried under search-engine results for Microsoft Surface tablets and franchise sites that read like they were written by an AI in 2014. Most homeowners never find them, or do not trust the ones they find.
What I built
Surface Fix is the company I wished my friend had found before the $32k quote. The model is simple. You send a photo. We come back with a fixed price that does not change at the door, signed by the technician who will actually arrive. We are fully insured, and we service all of Victoria, starting with Melbourne metro. The website explains what we do and what we charge for after you send a photo. It also lists what we won't take on.
What we will not do
We won't quote a renovation when a repair is the right answer. That extends across the rest of our work: no full resurface push when a chip-fix will do, no bath replacement when 90 minutes makes it like new. The whole point of this business is the $32,000 question: when can a 2cm chip stay a 2cm chip?
Send us a photo at surfacefix.com.au/quote. We will reply within 24 hours. If it can be repaired, we will quote it. If it can't, we will tell you that too, and point you to the right trade for the actual job.
